Once built, Hornsea Project One will be the largest windfarm in the world. It will use 7 megawatt wind turbines, each standing 190 metres tall (larger than the Gherkin building in London). It will be capable of providing enough renewable energy for over one million homes and over 40km of onshore cable will connect the project to the national grid.
A project of this scale reaches and impacts a wide range of communities and stakeholder groups. There is a fine balance to strike between the proactive and reactive; in positioning the project using positive messaging and in listening to and acting on the concerns of those affected.
Successful community engagement is sincere and targeted to those with a direct interest. We meet the right people, in the right way, at the right time. We communicate openly. We keep relevant industries informed so that they may realise potential opportunities. Our community liaison officer Dereth is on hand for any local enquiry and offers that human interaction that can’t be gained from web enquiries or information lines.
We are exceptionally proud to be members of the team building this iconic offshore windfarm. We are even prouder to be bringing local communities on board too.
